I lucked upon an amazing Estate sale from a NC physician’s collection.
I’m listing quite a few pieces over the next week. Most are high end smaller Washburn and Kalamazoo guitars that are from the late 1800s through the 1930s.
Research on these old guitars is confusing and I confess I haven’t had time to figure out exactly what they are. I’m certain that there are a few of you out there that know exactly what they are and if you can give me details, I’ll be happy to put them in my ads. Please feel free to correct me if you see something that I’m missing or mis-stating. Let me know if I’m way off on the price as well please - hi or lo.
I am going to list these at a price that is based on comparable models that are listed and recently sold. (My ignorance may just bite me. I may end up underselling myself, but I have a certain price in mind that I’d like to get for each one). I’m going to take offers until the end of March if you’re willing to wait that long.
On the other hand, put a bid in that’s high enough, and you may just take it today!
I’m going to try to describe these guitars as best as I can. All are playable and in beautiful condition. These older pre-war guitars don’t have truss rods so the necks tend to have a natural light bow.

Most have repairs done and a couple could probably use some attention. I’ll try to be as specific as I can. Zoom in on my high resolution pictures. Please ask questions and ask for more pictures if you’re really interested.
- Now let’s get to it. Number 1 is this older Washburn Parlor sized unmarked beauty!
Out of this collection, Im guessing this was one of the good Drs favorites. Amazing resonant tone wood. Great sustain. Feather weight.

There are no markings found on this guitar. No numbers or stamps that I can detect.
I’m guessing that this one was refinished at some point because the finish is really nice. Light wear on the face under the high E. Older Bridge with end piece was removed and replaced. It is solid. Old tailpiece holes were filled.
Really classy double bound body and round neck. Inlays along the rims, sound hole and down the center of the back. I’m guessing spruce top and mahogany neck, sides and back.
The neck is solidly placed and doesn’t look like it’s been reset. Rosewood fretboard. Frets are in very good shape. Beautiful beefy neck! Action is medium height. The saddle has room for adjustment.
There are 3 nicely repaired cracks in the face. None are terribly easy to see or feel. One by the lower bout and a couple from sound hole to bridge. All are stable. One very nicely repaired crack on the side of the lower bout.
Looks like original tuners with white plastic buttons. They hold tune well.
Includes worn Chipboard case which shows plenty of wear and loss of winding that binds the case together at the head. I can’t confirm it’s original to the guitar. All clasps, hinges and handle are intact. Non smoking homes
