Description
Travel back in time with this interesting old acoustic guitar. Made by the late, great Kay Musical Instrument Company, I'm reasonably guessing it was made in the late 1950s or early 1960s.It has the aluminum Kay "Kelvinator" headstock badge. X-braced top. Mahogany back and sides. Rosewood fretboard and saddle. Cool batwing pickguard. The truss rod cover is missing. The truss rod works. The lower bout is a hair over 15-1/2" wide, so it's almost a dreadnought, but not quite. 25-3/4" scale length.
It has some ordinary age and play wear, like little scuffs and scrapes, but looks good. There are no cracks or anything like that in the body. The saddle has a chip by the high E first string, but the saddle still works.
It actually sounds excellent. As it is, the 12th fret action is 6/32". The problem is that the neck heel is slightly separated from the back. The neck heel looks like somebody once drove a screw in it to the neck block, but that repair has not worked. So, the neck needs to be properly set, which will bring the action down. Because of its good cosmetics and quality build, it's a worthy candidate for repair.
No case, but it will be properly packed and wrapped for shipping.
Who's up for the challenge?
Questions?
It will be well packed with plenty of new 1/2" bubble wrap and shipped in a new 46"x19"x7" stout cardboard instrument box.
