When he was young, St. Peregrine was involved in politics in Italy. He disliked the Catholic Church. St. Peregrine met St. Philip Benizi and had a great change of heart. He rejoined the Catholic Church and became a priest in the Order of the Servants of Mary. St. Peregrine dedicated his life to caring for the poor, the sick, and the outcast. Later in life, he developed cancer in one of his legs. The cancer became so severe that removal of the leg was necessary. Then night before the operation, St. Peregrine prayed before a crucifix. He saw Jesus reach out and touch the leg with cancer. Then he realized that he had been completely healed! St. Peregrine lived for twenty more years, completely free of the cancer."
