DESCRIPTION

This auction features a vintage AJC pin or brooch.  The first thought I had when I saw this piece was that it definitely has a Art Nouveau revival feel to it. At the same time, it also has a theme that points toward mysticism, fairies, and maybe a touch of astrology, too. It's really kind of a neat combination. It is well detailed, showing the image of a woman's head in profile with long flowing hair extending out to the left of the head. Embedded within the hair are small, inset AB / Aurora Borealis rhinestones. Although I initially believed the face might only be half-formed, it is actually fully formed when seen from the front. She almost appears to be in a bit of blissful state!  The lady also wears a tiny necklace which is accented with a single AB rhinestone at the "pendant" level of the neck and a single "earring" at ear level, too. The metal is an antiqued silver or pewter tone, and it is definitely meant to have an older appearance. The back has a safety clasp pin closure and it is marked with, "c. AJC." In researching this piece, I found that the
"AJC" marking actually stands for "American Jewelry Chain Co." -- a company that was in operation from 1927-1997.
Either way, though, it is a really neat vintage piece and would be a lovely addition to any costume jewelry collection.

I am considering the age and use of this item when factoring the condition rating

This pin appears to be in Fair condition for the age and use of it. It does have some minor usage wear seen -- mostly in the form of light surface scratches and very minor metal wear. Otherwise, the pin does appear to be doing fairly well.
The safety clasp pin closure does still open and close but the actual pin piece does appear to be a little stiff, though.
I suspect that might be from age -- or possibly even a lack of regular use. That said, all AB rhinestones are present and do not appear to have any cracks, chips, or missing pieces to any of them. There is some minor storage soiling seen, but I'll leave any polishing and/or cleaning to the new owner. I do not see any major issues that would keep this piece from being used or worn.

Fair
condition overall.
AGE/YEAR MADE: Although exact age is unknown, I do believe this pin is vintage. And educated guess would be from the 1970s-1980s.
