The picture has been in our family for a long time. I cannot say exactly how old it really is. However, the patina or the wood peels off at the front and is an indicator for the age. Whether it was once painted or painted can no longer be determined today.
The frame is visibly not as old as the carved picture itself.
Since I was not 100% sure if it is wood I removed a small piece at an invisible spot and subjected it to a fire/smell test.
It's a masterpiece and fine craftmanship.
