IR (infra red) works like your TV controllers, you need to aim at the IR receiver on the white box
smd5050 is the industrial name for the led chips. These measure 5.0mm x 5.0mm ie SMD5050, where a RGB 3528 has separate chips ie single Red, Blue Green in a line and measure 3.5mm x 2.8mm ie SMD3528, you cannot achieve different colour shades with rgb smd3528 as cannot mix the Red, Blue and Green together, only achieve colour patterns.
