    Description

Up for grabs is a 1873 Bayonet for the French Chassepot. This piece is very significant because of its age, (almost 150 years old) and STILL having the same matching scabbard it was manufactured with. Both the scabbard and the bayonet itself are marked F with the serial number 10728, signalling this is a fairly low serial number bayonet. The handle of this piece is in fairly good condition, with a few minor flaws. There is a very small amount of pitting on one piece of the handle as well as a small mark on the handle as well. The guard is in magnificent shape as the scabbard is, with almost no rust. The button to attach this bayonet to the rifle works great, and would display great. The blade of the bayonet is in absolutely phenomenal shape with the only flaw being a very very small rust spot about ¾ the way up the blade and a small amount of possible rust at the bottom where the sheath sits. The blade is very shiny and looks great. The blade is marked B as well as it has a star which would signify the maker mark. Overall an interesting bayonet that most likely has an interesting backstory. Message with any questions. Thanks for looking.
