I used to sell a lot of firewood each winter and always looked with envy at the firewood bundles in the stores.
By the way the bundles were packaged, it looked as if I would need a special machine or a production line to produce something comparable.
I could see that selling wood in smaller quantities such as a bundle would certainly make the cord of wood worth more.
There are 128 cubic feet in a cord of firewood.
If you made each bundle hold a cubic foot of wood, that gave you 128 bundles to sell at a premium.
That was WAY more than I was getting for a bulk cord of wood.
The bundles also gave me the opportunity to sell firewood in the summertime.
Campgrounds and the stores around campgrounds stock and sell firewood bundles to the campers.
In my experience the hotter the summer was, the more bundles of wood I sold.
The first summer I started I ended up selling almost 6,000 bundles to the stores around the campgrounds in Ocean City MD.
You don't need a big machine or anything fancy to take advantage of this market.
All you need is a roll of this netting, some split firewood and a few items that are easily accessible to anyone.
HOW TO BUNDLE FIREWOOD:
1.)
Cut the netting to the appropriate length.
To bundle 16" to 18" wood I cut the netting into 3' lengths.
2.)
Secure one end of the netting with a hog ring (NOT INCLUDED) leaving the other end of the netting open.
3)
Upcycle 2 five gallon buckets (NOT INCLUDED) by removing the wire handles and cutting the bottoms off.
Place one bucket into the other to form a cylinder.
I secured the buckets together using duck tape.
Now you have a cylinder with openings at each end.
4.)
Take the netting that has been secured on one end with a hog ring and slip it over the buckets.
5.)
Turn the buckets with the netting over so that the opening is at the top.
Drop in your firewood pieces.
Pull the bucket out and attach another hog ring to the top.
Now the firewood is in the netting and each end has been secured.
IT'S THAT EASY!!!
You can make premium firewood bundles by adding starting paper and kindling to your bundle.
That way the customer has everything they need to start a fire.
We also used to use the netting to package smoking wood chunks for grills and smokers and pine cones which we sold to florists.
The items you can package and sell using this method is limited only by your imagination.
They beautiful thing about using netting to bundle is that the product inside continues to dry.
If you tried to package unseasoned wood with any other method, you risk the chance of the wood turning moldy.
The roll of netting is 2,000 feet long.
You will be able to make over 650 bundles with this one roll.
