    Description

Below is the African Broadly Banded Swallowtail,
    Papilio chrapkowskoides (
    formerly
    Papilio bromius
).  It is from the Central African Republic,
    Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
    .
Above it and closely related is the Tearful Swallowtail,
    Papilio epiphorbus
from Madagascar.  On the back side of the dome is African Narrow Banded Swallowtail,
    Papilio nireus
which ranges over most of Africa below the Sahara Dessert.
.  All three of these butterflies are forest dwellers and it is readily apparent they evolved from the same root species many eons ago.  The butterflies are perfect in every detail and are mounted on real driftwood.  Each dome is a "one of a kind" due to differences in the driftwood.  The dome is mounted on a 6 inch wide walnut base. The dome itself is 4.5 inches wide and 8 inches high.  Each dome comes with a colored brochure describing the natural history of the species.
