This is a real crab preserved on a piece of travertine. Travertine is cut from the quarries near Denizli, Turkey, for use as tiles for flooring. Occasionally these crab fossils are found while cutting the travertine. They have been preserved in their burrows since the middle Pleistocene and are estimated to be around 400,000 years old. This fossil is 100% authentic, direct from Turkey.
